Juul Submits PMTA for Menthol-Flavored Cigarette Cartridges to FDA

On December 19, American e-cigarette company Juul Labs announced that it was seeking FDA approval for its new menthol-flavored cartridges. The new generation of Juul2 cartridges requires age verification and is used with the new generation of Juul2 e-cigarette devices, which are currently under FDA review.

It is understood that Juul’s new menthol-flavored cigarette cartridge has a nicotine concentration of 18 mg/ml. It is the latest premarket tobacco product application (PMTA) submitted by Juul to the FDA.

To reduce the risk of social purchasing, Juul said it will not only limit the number of devices that can be purchased, but also limit the number of new devices that each age-verified user can activate and use menthol-flavored pods.

So far, the FDA has approved only 23 e-cigarette products for sale in the United States, and all of them are tobacco-flavored. The agency rejected applications for menthol e-cigarettes from several high-profile manufacturers, including British American Tobacco, which is appealing the decisions.

Juul Labs said in a statement that it had submitted evidence that its new menthol pods could help more smokers quit smoking than tobacco-flavored e-cigarettes.
